Festival Volunteer Action Projects Summary

“Don’t underestimate the power for people to pull together and to accomplish amazing things.” Barack Obama

The Green Apple Festival (GAF), in its fourth year again became America’s largest Earth Day event and the largest environmental event in the U.S. at any time of year.

Taking place on Earth Day weekend (April 17-19, 2009) in New York City, Boston, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, volunteer actions by thousands of committed citizens made Earth Day a time of meaningful change while heeding President Obama’s call for service.

Hundreds of volunteer actions took place in schools, parks, beaches and forests and were produced with the participation of leading environmental nonprofit organizations. Actions focused on climate-change solutions that also addressed economic and energy opportunities; helped cities and organizations get important work done; inspired individuals of all ages; and allowed us to give back to our communities while working to restore and renew the Earth.
