Blue Scholars
Formed in Seattle in 2002, the Blue Scholars have been in the vanguard of Pacific Northwest “true school” hip-hop. In the tradition of bands like Arrest Development, Emcee Geologic and DJ/producer Sabzi experiment with poetic yet socially conscious rhymes that are nevertheless danceable. They released their debut LP, Blue Scholars, on their own, garnering Seattle Weekly’s nod as Album of the Year in the process. Renowned for their electric live shows, they’ve shared the stage with not only Kanye West, De La Soul and Matisyahu, but have rocked their message out for community center shows, labor organizing conferences and festivals such as Sasquatch! and Bumbershoot.
