Earth Day Network & Green Apple Festival have announced that The Flaming Lips will headline Earth Day On The National Mall in Washington DC on Sunday, April 19, 2009. The free event on the National Mall will be emceed by actor Chevy Chase and feature an eclectic performance line-up with moe., Los Lobos, DJ Spooky, the Joy of Motion Dance Center’s teen hip hop company, Urban Impact. Additionally, Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network, actor Matthew Modine, Philippe Cousteau, Gene Karpinksi of the League of Conservation Voters, Dr. Amy Vedder - Senior Vice President, Wilderness Society and Rep. Edward Markey, U.S. House   Help make Earth Day a time of meaningful change in your community! Volunteers are needed on April 17, 18 and 19 for projects throughout the DC area. Activities take place parks, beaches, schools and forests. Actions will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced with the participation of leading environmental organizations, along with city parks and recreation departments, the activities address current challenges and will help get important work done.  Suitable for individuals of all ages, including children and families Lots of fun activities to choose from!
