FREE All Day Earth Day Celebration Starts at Noon!

Earth Day Network & Green Apple Festival have announced that The Flaming Lips will headline Earth Day On The National Mall in Washington DC on Sunday, April 19, 2009. The free event on the National Mall will be emceed by actor Chevy Chase and feature an eclectic performance line-up with moe., Los Lobos, DJ Spooky, the Joy of Motion Dance Center’s teen hip hop company, Urban Impact. Additionally, Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network, actor Matthew Modine, Philippe Cousteau, Gene Karpinksi of the League of Conservation Voters, Dr. Amy Vedder - Senior Vice President, Wilderness Society and Rep. Edward Markey, U.S. House

 

Help make Earth Day a time of meaningful change in your community!
Volunteers are needed on April 17, 18 and 19 for projects throughout the DC area.

Activities take place parks, beaches, schools and forests. Actions will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced with the participation of leading environmental organizations, along with city parks and recreation departments, the activities address current challenges and will help get important work done. 

Suitable for individuals of all ages, including children and families

Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival present Earth Day on the National Mall: A large-scale free Earth Day Festival with music, entertainment, speakers and environmental activities that will take place on the National Mall in Washington DC on Sunday, April 19, 2009. The event, combined with volunteer efforts in ten cities, will kick off The Green Generation, a campaign leading into the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010.  More information on Earth Day is available at www.earthday.net.

Officially established in 1965, National Mall and Memorial Parks protects some of the older park lands in the National Park System. The areas within National Mall and Memorial Parks provide visitors to Washington DC with ample opportunities to commemorate presidential legacies; honor the courage and sacrifice of war veterans; and celebrate the United States commitment to freedom and equality.
